Tasty Steve's Tasty 10

Date: May 24, 2017

We have reached the finals of the Street Fighter V ELEAGUE Invitational! Down to our final 8, where one champion will emerge victorious. This has been some of the best Street Fighter V we've seen, from some of the best players in the world. This season, we’ve seen the Capcom Cup Champion eliminated while the self-proclaimed "best in the world" PG Punk, continues to rise. In honor of this week’s flavorful final 8 action, let's take a look at the Tasty 8!

Biggest Movers

Xiao Hai

Last Week #1

Name: Victor Woodley

Country: United States

Favorite Character(s): Karin

Punk’s gameplay has been nothing short of amazing. Winning three Majors on the opposite coast has sparked major debate of his "the best..." claim being true?  However, he's the player to beat going into the finals, with PR Balrog as his first hurdle. His Karin is taking him the distance, and eyes are fixed on Punk making it through. Fuudo will definitely be watching, and says he hopes to meet and defeat the young warrior from Philly.

last week #2

Name: Ai Keita

Country: Japan

Favorite Character(s): R. Mika

Last seen at Battle Arena Melbourne, with a 3rd place finish, Fuudo’s consistency is only matched by Punk, who he aims to beat. As the tournament continues, Fuudo’s R.Mika play becomes more surgical.  His first stop is a bout with the brash Phenom, who seems ready and able to stop him. From this point on though, the Evo top 8 player has the credentials to take the ELEAGUE SFV Invitational clean.

last week #3

Name: Joshua Philpot

Country: United States

Favorite Character(s): Laura

He has done a lot of work to get to this point, defeating and eliminating players like the heavily-favored Xian as well as the “murder face” himself, Echo Fox Tokido. Now, with some of the dangerous matches already under his belt, his Laura looks poised to stop whomever is next.  Even a redeemed Xiao Hai will have his hands full, and the more Wolfkrone wins, the shorter the list of haters gets.  He’ll get another shot to prove himself at Friday night’s Finals, and you don’t want to miss it.

last week #6

Name: Yusuke Momochi

Country: Japan

Favorite Character(s): Ken, Karin

Momochi has taken a unique approach to prepping for his tournament season and this ELEAGUE run, playing with Ken as his main character choice, and Ibuki as a part-time back up.  If he wants to take the next step, he’s going to be tested.  His opponent will be none other than the legendary Daigo, who’s been keeping busy competing, winning Fighters Spirit in South Korea.  His best will be needed if he hopes to stay alive here in the ELEAGUE SFV Invitational.

PR Balrog

last week #5

Name: Eduardo Perez

Country: United States

Favorite Character(s): Balrog, Necalli

Eduardo looks comfortable at the helm of the season 2 version of Balrog, compiling an impressive record through group play.  The stage is set for his first-time clash with Punk to be a good one.  This won’t be easy, and we might event see a return to Necalli. That’s wishful thinking, but matchup knowledge will be important going into these fights for Eduardo, as he hopes to finish his push to be the ELEAGUE champion.

last week #7

Name: Arman Hanjani

Country: Norway

Favorite Character(s): Necalli, M. Bison

After making it to the finals last week, Phenom said he was going to destroy his first opponent, Fuudo. Of course, that’s easier said than done.  However, if you think about it, he’s been working like a mad man to stay afloat in the invitational, and told Malik Forte’ he wants to win. His Necalli has pulled out some amazing clutch plays to get this far, and as one of the new age Street Fighter V players, he’s setting the bar high going into the finals.

Xiao Hai

last week #9

Name: Zhoujun Zeng

Country: China

Favorite Character(s): Cammy

Xiao Hai has made some of the biggest strides here in ELEAGUE.  Being in a situation to beat a player with skill is one thing, but doing it twice within the same tournament, and sending your nemesis home on his birthday on national television in the process, is grounds for celebration.  The water gets even more treacherous from here, as Xiao Hai hopes to stop Wolfkrone from advancing.  His signature Cammy play will be on full display for the Finals.

Daigo Umehara

Name: Daigo Umehara

Country: Japan

Favorite Character(s): Ryu

Daigo does nothing but get better and better.  It is his continued learning and understanding of Street Fighter V and Guile play that has kept him in this competition. For everyone else, Daigo is very much a threat in the final leg, especially after that crazy match with Eita. The impressive display in Semifinals group play is a prime example of why people marvel at him.  “The Beast” can make some big waves in the remaining matches, and his first showing will be against EchoFox Momochi.  It will be a difficult road from here, even for the Dai-God.
