ELEAGUE FUT Champions Cup Stage III Powered by truth Day One Highlighted by Improbable Upsets as Rising Brazilian Players Manage Strong Showing vs. Established Global Stars

Despite Sustained Uprising by Lower-Ranked Players, World No. 1 Tekkz Stays Perfect with 5-0 Record Through Group Stage

The third major competitive event of the EA SPORTS FIFA 20 calendar, the ELEAGUE FUT (FIFA Ultimate Team) Champions Cup Stage III powered by truth, kicked off from ELEAGUE Arena at WarnerMedia Studios in Atlanta today. At the beginning of the tournament, 64 of the top EA SPORTS FIFA 20 competitive pros began their quest to become the next FUT Champions Cup winner – a title that will pay the champion the majority of $200,000 in prize money and 2000 Global Series Rankings points.

The day featured several upsets, including two early losses for the world's No. 2 ranked Xbox player NRASEK and its No. 28 ranked PlayStation 4 player NICOLAS99FC. Favorites continued to face tough challenges from lower-ranked players throughout the day, including fourth-ranked PS4 star Paulo Neto, who fell to No. 74 OliBoli.

Nonetheless, Tekkz – who lifted the trophy when he last played in a Champions Cup at ELEAGUE – used the dominant play his fans know well to go undefeated (5-0), squashing any chance of becoming part of the day's upset narrative.

Continuing the EA SPORTS FIFA 20 Global Series' theme of dominant play by South American players, four Brazilians finished the day in the tournament's top 10 – the most of any nation. Three of those players entered the tournament ranked outside the world's top 40.

Complete Day One scores and standings for both Xbox and PlayStation 4 brackets will be posted to ELEAGUE.com. Be sure to catch continued live coverage of the ELEAGUE FUT Champions Cup Stage III powered by truth when Day Two gets underway beginning tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 18, at 1 p.m. ET across Twitch, YouTube, B/R Live & ELEAGUE.com.
